As If There Isn't Enough Of Space Debris Floating Around Up There! ISS Sends Empty Space Suit To Burn Up In Earth's Atmosphere!

As the International Space Station spins around the Earth, a door unexpectedly opens and a figure in a Russian spacesuit is thrown out. It looks like something from the film ‘Gravity’, but the chilling scene happened in real life less than a decade ago. Back in 2006, Nasa astronauts launched one of their ‘colleagues’ from the International Space Station to orbit Earth for seven months before burning up in the atmosphere.Fortunately, their colleague was an out-dated empty spacesuit dubbed SuitSat-1 redesigned to be one of the most bizarre satellites ever launched. The makeshift satellite was thrown from the space station by crew members Bill McArthur and Valery Tulare as they began a six-hour spacewalk. The idea was put forward by the Russians who thought they could turn old spacesuits into useful satellites, according to Sam Wilkinson writing in Sploid. The spacesuit was equipped with three batteries, a radio transmitter and internal sensors to measure temperature and battery power. Despite some initial problems, it was used to broadcast transmissions in six languages to amateur radio operators around the world. As well as transmitting data, SuitSat broadcast messages recorded by schoolchildren from around the world. It orbited several times around Earth before it started to malfunction. Within two weeks of the problems appearing, the unusual satellite plunged into the atmosphere and burned up south of Australia. SuitSat-1 was successful enough for Nasa to want to try the idea again.Daily Mail Read More>>>>>
